Yes. Volunteers must be 18 years or older to volunteer on construction sites and with our neighborhood revitalization program. In our ReStore, volunteers must be at least 16 years or older. Volunteers aged 16-17 will be required to have a waiver form signed by a parent before they will be able to volunteer. That form can be found here.
Do I need construction or relevant professional experience to volunteer?
No! We'll always have trained employees on our construction and volunteer sites that will have a skillset relevant to the task at hand. They'll provide guidance and training for you once you're on the volunteer site.
Are construction shifts rain or shine?
Yes. On the off chance there is a construction site cancelation, your group leader will be contacted by someone from Habitat. If no one from Habitat contacts you, the project will continue as planned.
What do I need to bring with me to the construction sites?
Volunteers should wear close-toed shoes and weather appropriate clothes to the construction site. Lunch is not provided by Habitat, so Volunteers should either bring their own lunch, or money to buy lunch from a nearby business. Volunteers aged 16-17 should also bring a minor waiver form that has been signed by a legal guardian; minors are only able to volunteer with certain activities, please contact the Volunteer Programs Manager if you have a minor individual or group. Our construction sites are equipped with water for volunteers, as well as all the construction tools and materials that will be needed.
can I bring my own tools with me to the construction site?
Of course! While we'll have tools on site, you're more than welcome to bring your own. However, Habitat is not responsible for lost or misplaced items.
Can I complete my court ordered community service with Habitat?
Yes! Our ReStore has volunteer opportunities for those needing to fulfill court ordered service. Please click herefor more information.
What if I can't volunteer for an entire construction Shift?
We always have volunteer opportunities in our Habitat for Humanity ReStore that don't have set time constraints. In the ReStore, you can pick the days and times you volunteer, so every volunteer shift can fit your schedule. Check out the ReStore Calendar here.
For projects with set time constraints, it's important that you come for the entire length of the project that you sign up for.
