FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What factors of race or religion determine who is eligible to receive a Habitat for Humanity home?
None. Habitat bulds for people of all ages, races, family size, and ethnicity.
What does a family have to do to earn a Habitat home after they are selected?
The family must contribute a $1,200.00 down payment, $75 a month for 16 months, prior to moving into their home. This payment covers the first year of taxes and insurance on the house. The family must also contribute a minimum of 350/550 hours of sweat equity to help build their home and homes of other future Habitat homeowners. The family must also participate in a series of educational classes related to home management and life skills. Once they complete these requirements the families are eligible for a home and will pay an interest free mortgage.
What is done with Habitat homeowners' mortgage payments?
They are recycled into a revolving fund to build more homes.
