2010 Forest Acres Green Build PDF Print E-mail

Forest Acres holds 2010 Green Build, a collaborative project that raised support and awareness on sustainable living and building practives.  The event was hosted and promoted by several congregations (Beth Shalom Synagogue, Bethel United Methodist, Forest Lake Presbyterian, North Trenholm Baptist, St. Michael and All Angel's Episcopal, and Tree of Life Congregation) in the North Trenholm Road area, along with the City of Forest Acres, Keep the Midlands Beautiful, and Central SC Habitat for Humanity.

Habitat held a house build in the parking lot of Forest Lake Presbyterian Church. Volunteers from other congregations and organizations came out and contributed towards the completion of the house. However this build was a little different. In the spirit of "going green" Habitat had a new line of houses being built that weekend, dog house. What may have looked like a heap of scrap lumber and discarded vinyl, was actually material used to build seven dog houses. Instead of throwing away perfectly good and usable material, Habitat was able to create their very own line of dog houses, each with a sturdy wooden frame, vinyl siding, trim work and even a shingled roof. Other local vendors had the chance to showcase their sustainable living solutions as well. From hand made soaps to unique works of art there was just about something for everyone.

Central South Carolina Habitat for Humanity would once again like to say thank you to everyone that came out and supported the Habitat build at this years Green Festival, God bless!
